Iolite crystallizes in the form of masses, grains, & short prismatic crystals. The colour range includes blue, brown, yellow, dark violet, grey, & green. This mineral also exhibits the pleochroic qualities; i.e., X -axis showing clear yellow, y -axis showing dark violet, blue, or brown, & the Z-axis showing clear blue. In some cases, a metamorphic change has occurred in the iolite & the colours which are seen are shades of grey-green, green-grey, & brown-grey. Iolite is called the "violet stone". It is one of the major stones for use in the third-eye/crown area during healing, during guided meditations, & during astral travel adventures. Its positioning in this area can determine the nature & the extent of the success of the activity. One must use the intuitive capabilities to determine the correct location for each specific situation. This mineral helps one to change "painlessly", the change being toward spiritual growth & enhanced "illusion". It produces an electrical charge when in contact with ones auric field & can both strengthen & align this field with the subtle bodies. It is useful for the stimulation of visions & has also been used in shamanic healing ceremonies to influence the spirits. The iolite ring of the shaman is worn to ensure accuracy within the vision. Iolite can help one to attain a constitution which defies physical disorders. It is said to enable one to consume alcohol without exhibiting the effects. It has been used to both protect & to improve degraded conditions of the liver. It can also be used to assist in lessening fatty deposits & to rid the body of toxins.
